FUND RAISING AND SUPPORT

FUND RAISING

Annual Phantom Ball

The Faculty Associates’ major fund-raising activity is the annual Phantom Ball which takes place December 31. Phantom Ball participants make a contribution to the UCSF Faculty Associates, without an obligation to attend any event. Proceeds from the Phantom Ball go to student financial aid and the Mt. Zion Young Women’s Clinic.

Tributes and Memorials

Tributes and memorials can be given to the UCSF Faculty Associates to honor a friend or family member. Tributes also make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, holidays, or other special occasions. Tribute and memorial contributions are used for the support activities described below.

SUPPORT ACTIVITIES

Student Financial Aid

The UCSF Faculty Associates has provided loans since 1970 and scholarships since 1991 for students campus-wide. Thanks to the hard work of the group’s members and the generosity of the campus community, the combined loan and scholarship programs total more than $675,000.

Our loan fund is a revolving fund. As students graduate and begin to repay their loans, the funds are loaned to other students. Loans are interest free until graduation; interest of 5% is charged during the repayment period. Donations to the scholarship fund are invested, with the principal providing scholarships to students. These two funds have assisted students from the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and graduate programs, including physical therapy. All loans and scholarships are administered by the UCSF Student Financial Services Office.

Young Women’s Program

Since 1997, the UCSF Faculty Associates has provided support to the Young Women’s Program (YWP) at the UCSF/Mount Zion campus. YWP serves high-risk pregnant teens. The Faculty Associates provides educational and nutritional supplies and materials for these women.
